The American Legion is the nation’s Largest Veteran’s Service Organization. Founded in 1919 by an Act of Congress, it advocates for Service Members and Military Families, lobbies for Veteran’s Benefits (including Healthcare and the GI Bill), mentor’s youth and strengthens local communities nationwide.

American Legion Post 17 George D. Montgomery operates on the four foundational pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. Promoting Americanism, Patriotism, Responsible Citizenship, and Youth Programs such as the Boys State and American Legion Baseball. Supports initiatives like the Veterans & Children Foundation, which provides Emergency Financial Assistance.

American Legion Post 17, located at 315 Liberty Boulevard, DuBois, PA 15801, was named after George Dwight Montgomery, the first officer from the DuBois area killed in WW1. He was killed by a sniper’s bullet in the Meuse - Argonne Forest of France, just over a month before the signing of the armistice.
