The American Legion Riders began in 1993 at Post 396 in Garden City, Michigan. Rider’s Chuck “Tramp” Dare and Bill “Polka” Kaledas had a vision to have a “specialized” association where Legion Members could combine their love for riding with their commitment to Community Service. It has grown into one of the largest and most active programs in the American Legion Family.

The American Legion Riders are dedicated to charitable fundraising, honoring fallen Military personnel, and supporting Veterans and families.
Chapters regularly raise funds for Children’s Hospitals, Schools, Veterans Homes and the Veterans & Children Foundation (VCF). The Flagship National Event is an Annual Cross-Country motorcycle ride that raises money for Veterans’ Children.
Riders frequently organize escorts for Military Funerals, Welcome-Home deployments, and Troop Send-Offs.
