The Sons of the American Legion (SAL) is a non-profit organization founded in 1932. Made up of male descendants, adopted sons, and step-sons of the U.S. Military Veterans. As a broader part of the “American Legion”, SAL members actively support Veterans, raise funds for Military Charities, and promote Patriotism and Youth Programs. Local “Chapters” operate as “Squadrons” and are affiliated with a specific local American Legion Post. At the State level, these “Chapters” are organized into “Detachments”. Pennsylvania has one of the Largest “Detachments” in the Country.
Members frequently raise funds for Child Welfare Foundation programs, the Fisher House, and local Veteran Emergency funds. SAL actively supports Legion-sponsored programs like Boys State, American Legion Baseball, and Oratorical Contests. Younger members are encouraged to participate in study “programs” like “The Ten Ideals”, focusing on Patriotism, Health, and Faith, and the “Five-Point Program of Service”, focusing on Leadership and Discipline.
